Life Update (9/28/16)

Finally some time to squeeze in a quick life update.

We’ve officially surpassed the midpoint of our USA trip. As of the moment, Ralf and I have travelled from Manila to Los Angeles, New York, Virginia, Washington D.C., Orlando and back to LA. All those places in a span of 25 days.

We have visited places like LACMA, the Flatiron building, Madison Square Garden, The Met, Top of the Rock, the US Capitol, Great Falls Park, Disneyworld, the Wizarding World of Harry Potter, Sta. Monica Pier… just to name a few.

And I finally finished my citizenship papers! After months and months of working with Sandi, making plans and discussing the procedure, I’m finally getting my Filipino passport this November!

Tomorrow we leave for San Francisco to see Ralf’s tita and her daughter via JetBlue and will be coming back to LA after the weekend.

This trip has been incredibly tiring so far but so rewarding. We’ve met old friends and new friends along the way, seen so many new places and heard so many stories. Many things have also happened, to us and to people around us since we left the Philippines. In due time these will all be shared here on the blog.

But ’til then this will have to suffice. Expect tons and tons of photos and videos up on the new Youtube page: Jamie Sees

Metro Society Feature

I am so humbled to be a part of this group of inspiring and talented fashion creatives from SoFA. It’s odd to see my actual face on a glossy magazine page. I don’t know if I’ll ever get this opportunity again but if ever there is a next time, I’ll probably skip the heels and wear something more comfortable (a.k.a. more me).

Jasmine Curtis-Smith for Megastyle.ph

Hello all! September has been really good to me. I’ve been doing alot of things such as going back to the gym (ouch) and working full time for local designer, Vania Romoff. September is also the month of features! So a couple of months back, a stylist from Mega Magazine asked to pull out some of my clothes for two shoots; one for Mega Magazine and one for the Megastyle.ph (online counterpart of Mega Mag) cover story featuring Jasmine Curtis-Smith. They featured my all time favorite oversized fluffy white sweater.

You can read the article here: http://megastyle.ph/megastyle-ph-september-2015-jasmine-curtis-smith/

There’s also a link to download the magazine in the article so go! go! go!

Feature

I don’t usually post anything work or fashion related on this blog but I felt that I had to make an exception for this. Last month, me and 9 other SoFA Alumni were chosen to be a part of a special feature by Metro Society for their September 2015 issue. Yesterday, the feature was finally released in our local bookstores and today, it blew up all over our small SoFA community.

Yes, that is me in the white suit. Besides the fact that I had nothing to wear (mostly because all my old clothes don’t fit anymore), it only seemed right that I break the norm and went as the only girl in a “suit”.

I read my Q&A portion and I couldn’t help but lol at how some of my answers were rephrased. More on that in another post.

If you’d like to read my or one of my fellow designers’s interviews, grab a copy and feel free to tell me what you think! 🙂

C + M Wedding (9/5/2015)

Last week, I was invited to my good friend Mabel’s civil wedding at Antipolo. Now before you jump into any conclusions, they had a civil wedding for formality’s sake. Their actual wedding will be next month at Japan but their marriage there will be voided once they return to Manila thus the reason for the civil wedding.

Chris and Mabel have been an item for as long as I can remember. I remember during our SoFA days, I would see Mabel walking around with a bouquet of flowers or popping in and out of class because she had visa interviews to go to with Chris. They are definitely goals when it comes to travelling the world with your loved one. I’ve seen their photos in a number of countries in Asia which is why I wasn’t surprised when I found out that they were having a destination wedding.

I was really nervous that Ralf and I wouldn’t make it to the ceremony because traffic was hell along Ortigas Avenue Extension (surprise surprise) but luckily, we made it just in time. These are not all my photos from the event; just key details that I’d like to share with you all. 🙂

Upon entering the house, we were greeted by a small coffee set up which Ralf loved because of the doughnuts. From this point, I could already tell that Mabel took a lot of inspiration from Pinterest and decided to go for a DIY celebration.

Mabel, my beautiful friend turned Mrs. I still can’t believe that I have a close friend that got married! Is this the signal that I’m entering that stage in life that everyone is getting married? In this photo, she’s blowing kisses to her new nieces and nephews who were inside taking naps and watching tv.

The ceremony was outdoors on the Sunga’s patio. It was raining hard that day (with matching thunder cracks) but it quieted down by the time the Pastor started to speak.

These Red Velvet cupcakes were baked by Mabel’s grandmother. They actually had a whole section dedicated to just desserts! If I remember right, there were 4 types of cheesecakes, Strawberry shortcake, cookie shots, Mango float shots, and cake pops.

My favourite part of the evening was when they started the Open Mic and everyone asked Mabel to sing. Her song choice was “How Do I Live Without You” by Shania Twain and not being bias or anything but she sang it beautifully! I think what made it sweeter was that she was singing directly to Chris and when she got to the last chorus, she started to cry. Talk about real love right there.

Photo of SoFA people minus Iza. She was hired as a photographer for the event so she was the one who took this photo.

It was amazing to see how tight knit the Sungas are as a family and how they welcomed Mabel with open arms. I later learned that everything was planned under two weeks! But they pulled it off and finally tied the knot. Though they did not share their vows with us (they’re saving that and their kiss as man and wife for Japan), you could tell that they had this connection that only we mortals dream of discovering one day.

Congratulations again Mr. and Mrs. Sunga! ❤

Mabel’s outfit was designed by Bengt by the way. See more of his work here.
