Creature Comfort – Preview Magazine October 2015

PREVIEW_1

When Loris asked me to make an outfit inspired by “Nomadic Upholstery” earlier this year, I knew exactly what I wanted to do. I knew I wanted a huge hood and something that showed that alot of effort and love went into the garment. Plus (faux) FUR FUR FURRRRRR.

This hooded vest/top/whatever definitely embodies my personality at best.

I was ecstatic to see that they used it more than once for the feature (that close up shot!!!). I had initially planned to create a collection based on this piece but of course, the plans have changed. Now I have something else planned and I can’t wait to share it with all of you!

Now I just have to start it.

But until then, stare at these photos, comment on my posts (tell me what you think!) and check out my other stuff. I truly appreciate any signs of human interaction so please feel free to leave a message! 🙂

Cut and sewed 400+++ squares to make a custom designed fabric to be used for the project I mentioned earlier. All in 2 days by the way. The trouble with upholstery material is that the weave is a bit spaced out so the fabric frays ALOT. But nonetheless, I’m really happy with how this turned out. 🙂

August 3-7-2015 Photo Dump + Update

Weeks ago, I made a blog post about how I was experiencing a rut in my life. I can’t begin to explain how things definitely took a turn for the better after that post. I really felt the power of sending out thoughts into the universe and I don’t know where to begin! I will attempt to briefly explain some of the events that took place over the last 5 days with matching visual aids (of course).

Processed with VSCOcam with hb1 presetI received an email last Thursday (July 30) from a styling assistant from _________ Magazine, asking me if I was interested in doing a look for one of their October editorials. What great timing this was because prior to receiving the email, I was just saying that I needed to get more features/exposure for my portfolio. Even though Preview only gave me a week to make the outfit, I still said yes. You can see my design journey for this project and more here. Won’t go into details about the photo (except for the fact that the quilt was a BITCH to make!) since it pretty much speaks for itself. 🙂

I won’t expound on this but I did get to hang out at Starbucks Tomas Morato before my interview and to my surprise, a barista who I used to be close to (Hi Treb!) was at that branch! We caught up for a bit before I left for the interview.

After the interview with Secret Fresh, I went next door to Lunch Box where I had a hearty lunch. I couldn’t help but snap some photos of this place because it is goals and I was alone (lol).

What I had for lunch: Roast Chicken with Mashed Potatoes and Veggies. YUM YUM YUM!

The current book I’m reading. I’m a real sucker for Self-Help books and books that are just P-R-E-T-T-Y so when I stumbled upon this beauty, I just HAD to have it! I bought a copy for myself and for Sandi (birthday gift). I got to read the introduction while I was queuing to pay and it sounds really promising. What better way to get out of a rut, am I right?

I’m currently 1/4 through this book and so far so good. It’s visually pleasing and the text is straight to the point. I always find that the best Self-help books are the ones that tell you the honest truth in the most direct way possible. The reality checks they give are eye-openers and usually inspire me to act straight away.

Processed with VSCOcam with hb1 presetI still have a TON of unused squares left so I made a laptop sleeve for Annie and a book cover for myself. I noticed that my copy of “Show Your Work” was a bit damaged whilst it was in my everyday bag and I certainly didn’t want a repeat of that with my new pretty book. I really liked how these DIY projects turned out. It was actually pretty easy to make since the operations are just sewing straight lines and matching edges. Let me know if you want me to do a detailed post about how to make these though. 🙂

I went to another job interview this week! Never did I think that I would have the opportunity to have options. But more on this another day though but the future is definitely bright!

Furry hood. The fur is faux though so nothing to worry about; no animals were harmed. This is a sneak peek of my look for ________! Can you guess what my inspiration/s is/are? HEH HEH.

Man, after all those weeks… months.. of waiting and waiting and waiting for something to happen, all the opportunities come knocking during the same week. August is definitely looking up for me and I really hope that this good luck streak lasts for as long as possible.

Patchwork and Nomadic Upholstery

Yesterday I got an email from a Styling assistant from a popular Fashion magazine (that I will reveal soon) here in the Philippines, asking me if I was up to making a look for an editorial. Naturally I said yes since I needed more content to build a kick-ass portfolio to show potential schools so that I can finally pursue my MBA. The editorial will be based on the Fall/Winter 2015-2016 trends of Patchwork and Nomadic upholstery. The catch: the shoot will be on August 7, so I have to submit the look on August 6; that’s 6 days from now! I die.

Once I got over the initial shock, I had a million things going through my head of all the elements I wanted to incorporate into my look. Good thing ___________ sent me some pegs from the actual Fall/Winter shows and I got to say, WOW. I especially loved Dsquared’s Eskimo inspired collection.

I was talking with Ralf about what to do with my look and we came up with the bright idea of having it Ewok and Eskimo inspired. So after scouring the mall for fabric, I gathered up my options and picked the ones that I would most likely be working with for this project. I got some really nice Missoni prints from Fanbi that I will definitely be using among other treasures. Getting excited over this because it’s something that’s totally different from the Origin of Love and frankly, I was getting tiresome of the neutrals.

That’s it for now! Stay tuned for the next update on this project. 🙂

Also, going to Preview Magazine’s launch party tonight! It’s for their August issue which I’m actually in (kind of)!!! I’ve been waiting for this to come out since May! I’ll definitely post the article once I get my hands on a copy.
